TallCat Studios — Start Here

First things first

Step 1 of 4

Who are you?

Give us enough to know who we’re talking to, then tell us where you’re starting from.

1. Tell us about yourself and what you are currently doing professionally, creatively, or academically. 2. What areas of audio, music, recording, production, video, or media interest you most? 3. What tools, DAWs, software, instruments, studio equipment, cameras, editing systems, or other relevant technology have you used?

Where this might go

Step 2 of 4

What pulls you toward it?

You don’t need a five-year master plan. We’re interested in what you want to learn and what sounds exciting right now.

5. Why are you interested in working and learning in a professional studio environment? 6. What would you most like to learn during your time at TallCat Studios? 7. What skills or capabilities would you like to have developed one year from now? 8. What is your primary area of interest?

The part that matters every day

Step 3 of 4

How do you show up?

Gear can be learned. Habits matter too.

9. What is your current availability? 10. How many hours per week can you realistically and consistently commit? 11. Professional studio work includes many necessary tasks that are not glamorous—cleaning, organizing, wrapping cables, moving equipment, documentation, setup, teardown, maintenance, file management, and similar work. How do you feel about performing those kinds of tasks? 12. When you do not understand something, how comfortable are you asking questions before proceeding? 13. How do you normally remember and consistently follow procedures, instructions, or workflows you have been taught? 14. Tell us about something difficult that you had to learn. How did you approach it, and what did you do when you became frustrated or stuck?

A little reality check

Step 4 of 4

What do you expect?

This helps us see whether what you’re hoping for and what the studio can offer are pointing in the same direction.

15. What do you expect an internship or assistant role at TallCat Studios to be like? 16. What would make this experience successful for you? 17. Are there particular kinds of work you are not interested in doing, or areas you specifically do not want to pursue? 18. What other work, school, family, creative, or personal commitments currently compete for your time? 19. Please provide links to any work you would like us to see or hear.Portfolio, recordings, mixes, videos, photography, websites, social accounts, projects, etc. 20. Is there anything else you think we should know about you? Optional referenceProfessional, academic, or personal reference/contact.

One Last Look

You’re stepping into a world where nobody has everything figured out on day one—and that’s part of what makes it exciting. Give this one last read, make sure it sounds like you, and send it when you’re ready. Curiosity, attention, and taking the time to check your own work will take you a long way around here.

I gave it one last read. This is what I want TallCat Studios to receive.
